Meet the Staff
John Robertson
Chief Executive Officer
John serves as our Chief Executive Officer. With nearly three decades of experience in senior leadership and organizational management, John brings a deep and comprehensive understanding of the strategic, operational, and cultural imperatives required to drive organisational success and transformation. Most recently he served as the Senior Pastor at Riverlife Baptist Church, a large and vibrant church in the western suburbs of Brisbane. John is a proactive and solutions-oriented leader, with a strong focus on the development of both people and processes and is passionate about ensuring leaders continue to grow. John has a strong involvement with Australian Baptist Ministries and currently serves as the Chair of the Australian Baptist Ministries National Council.
Phil Thomson
Executive Director
Phil serves as our Executive Director. He has an MBA, a Master of Arts (Christian Leadership), and is an endorsed minister with Churches of Christ Qld. Phil has leadership experience in business, not-for-profit and church ministry contexts and is passionate about growing healthy leaders. Phil is also a Leadership Coach, Trainer and Speaker and brings expertise in marketing and strategy to the GLNA.
Fiona Cochrane
Next Gen National Director
Fiona serves as our GLNA Next Gen National Director. A seasoned Youth Worker, Fiona also pastors The Rock Christian Family Church with her husband John and serves in management roles for various charities. With a background in production, event management, marketing, youth work, and missions, Fiona is passionate about inspiring the next generation to believe they can change the world and equipping them to do so.
Sarah McCutcheon
Next Gen Relationships Manager
Sarah is passionate about empowering young people to become innovative thinkers and change agents. With an experienced background in diverse organisational planning and operations, Sarah’s roles have included everything from executive leadership to directing a full-time citywide youth initiative, pioneering a skateboarding program, and developing overseas service trips for teenagers. Sarah has over two decades working with a youth NFP and is a highly sought-after international speaker and educator in the areas of youth culture, Generation Z and youth leadership. She is also owner of the ethical clothing brand Straya Shirts and author of ‘The Relationship Status’ book.
Sarah Kirsch
Communications Manager
Sarah has joined the GLNA team as our Communication Manager. With a diverse background in event management, marketing, communications, and administration, she brings valuable experience from both business and church ministry. Sarah is dedicated to sharing the word of God in innovative ways, striving to make a significant impact for the Kingdom of God. Outside of work, she enjoys life with her husband Shane and their three basketball-loving teenage boys.
Michelle Clare
Office Manager
Michelle has 30 years of professional experience in administration and business management. She understands the importance of effectively managing resources to maximise the efficiency of the organisation. She is committed to excellence and is passionate about supporting the team to achieve every success.
She is married and loves spending quality time with her family and grandchildren.
Tracey Howells
Administration Manager
Tracey serves GLNA as the Administration Manager. She brings a love for serving others and fostering efficiency among the team. With admin experience in the medical professional space, church and children’s ministry programs, Tracey brings her organizational skills and efficiency to every task. She is a worship leader and is passionate about people saying yes to Jesus and His call on their lives. Tracey is married to Stephen, lives in the Perth Hills, and enjoys all things F1 racing.
Margaret Spicer
NZ Leadership Consultant
Margaret is a passionate advocate for healthy leadership and the vital role of the local church in transforming communities. With extensive experience as a Senior Pastor, CEO of Willow Creek Association NZ, Generational Ministries Pastor at Crossway Baptist Church in Melbourne, and Executive Pastor at Gracecity Church in Auckland, she has dedicated her life to equipping leaders for effective ministry.
Through Partners in Ministry, Margaret provides pastoral supervision, coaching, and mentoring for church leaders and staff, helping them thrive in their calling. She also serves as Director of Partner Services with the Irresistible Church Network, supporting churches in creating environments that engage people with faith in fresh and compelling ways.
A sought-after conference speaker, leadership coach, and strategic team builder, Margaret’s passion for the local church, NextGen ministries, and families fuels her mission to see leaders impact their communities where they live, work, play, and worship. She is married to Brian and is always up for a coffee and a conversation.
Meet the Board
Bruce Moore
Moderator, Uniting Church in Australia – Queensland
GLNA Board Chair
Bruce is the pastoral and spiritual leader of the Uniting Church in Qld. As an influential leader he draws from a rich experience in ministry and mission roles within the Uniting Church and other Christian organisations including Scripture Union QLD and Sisters of Mercy. He has a diverse background in senior management positions within government, private business and the not-for-profit sectors and is well-recognised for his expertise in leadership development, transformational and cultural change.
Bruce holds a Bachelor of Theology, graduate qualifications in Management, Rural and Environmental Science and is a Graduate of the Australian Institute of Company Directors and International Association of Teamwork Facilitators.
Leonie Wright
Queensland Director for the Women Leaders Network
GLNA Board Director
Leonie is the Queensland state leader for the Women’s Leaders Network. She is deeply passionate about championing, empowering, and supporting women while seeing women and men leading well together.
Previously, Leonie served as a Pastor and then Co-Senior Pastor of Kardinia Church for 20 years, where she and her husband led and developed a multi-site church in Victoria. Her dedication to leadership development and her heart for equipping others to fulfill their God-given mission led her to host the Global Leadership Summit (GLS) at Kardinia Church from 2006 to 2019.
With a strong commitment to empower leaders, Leonie is driven by a vision to see individuals deepen their relationship with God and grow in emotional health, empowering both leaders and organisations to flourish through effective leadership and strategic development.
Andy Hopper
Hillsong Asia-Pacific Locations Oversight
GLNA Board Director
In Andy’s role with Hillsong Church he brings strategic leadership and support to their seven church plants throughout Asia and the Pacific Islands, as well as helping to develop Hillsong’s global church planting framework. Andy has a Bachelor’s Degree in Theology and is currently studying for a Master of Leadership.
Since attending the GLS as a teenager back in the UK (even skipping school to do so), he has held an unshakeable belief that the local Church is the hope of the world, and is passionate about helping churches of all sizes, styles and denominations realise their untapped potential.
Bree Mills
Canon for Church Planting and Revitalisation, Anglican Diocese of Melbourne
GLNA Board Director
Bree Mills is the Canon for Church Planting and Revitalisation in the Anglican Diocese of Melbourne. Bree is also the founding director of Micro Movements and a doctoral student in Missional Leadership, focusing on developing innovative leaders for the Australian context.
An ordained Anglican minister with over 20 years of experience at the missional edge of the church, Bree is passionate about contextualised discipleship, local mission, and equipping young leaders for the future.
Kynan Brookes
Lead Pastor, Hope Valley Church
GLNA Board Director
Kynan has served at Hope Valley Church as the Lead Pastor since 2008. This long-term tenure has involved staff management, property development and leadership across most ministries and at every level.
His heart for the church and his community has led through times of abundance and times of crisis and each of these seasons has drawn out deep leadership values and attributes.
He leads his life by example, walking with Christ, raising and empowering leaders to be effective in their mission and being community driven.
Karen Wilson
Founder and Executive Director for the Women Leaders Network, Global Leadership Network
GLNA Board Director
Karen is the founder and Executive Director of the Women Leaders Network (an initiative of the Global Leadership Network). This network is rapidly growing globally and is currently a presence in 40 countries and growing daily. Karen has been the CEO for GLNA/NZ 2020-2025 and has had experience overseeing GLN at an international level for many years prior to that. Karen has a strong involvement with the Baptist World Alliance, and she is currently the President for the Baptist World Alliance Women. An ordained minister, Karen has pastored churches and held many leadership roles with organisations and not for profit boards.
Karen has a passion to see women and men working to their full potential alongside one another. She champions growth in others and believes in every follower of Jesus living a life in service of others and in the fullness that God intended.
Chad Smit
Principal, Devonport Christian School

Chad leads an authentic community where faith formation and identity transformation are at the heart of the rigorous Christian curriculum. He’s passionate about seeing the next generation of leaders rise from our schools and churches. Bringing areas of expertise in education, authentic communities, leading culture, Next Gen and family partnerships, Chad is a visionary leader. He is an experienced Principal with a demonstrated history of working in the educational leadership and management sphere.
Chad’s school community declare ‘Jesus is Lord of All’ and focuses on having a Kingdom impact.
Chad is passionate about Christian Education and allowing students to learn to love God, pursue excellence and flourish to reach their full potential.
