Finish Strong:
The Power of Replenishment
with John Robertson | CEO | Global Leadership Network Australia & New Zealand
As we approach the end of the year, many leaders feel their energy, clarity, and drive fading. The finish line is near, yet the terrain seems steeper and the responsibilities heavier. It reminds me of recently supporting my wife as she ran in a grueling 160km ultra-marathon through the rugged Grampians.
Ultra-marathons are brutal – long, unpredictable, and mentally relentless. My role as crew was simple but essential: meet her at aid stations with water, nutrition, and encouragement. Those brief moments didn’t slow her down; they made it possible for her to keep going. Christian leaders need the same.
At this year’s Global Leadership Summit, performance scientist Dr James Hewitt shared a truth we often ignore: “Rest is not a reward; it’s what makes great work possible.” Scripture affirms this rhythm. Even Jesus withdrew to quiet places to pray, rest, and reconnect with the Father.
As year-end planning, reporting, and Christmas preparations intensify, the temptation is to push harder. But finishing strong isn’t about heroic exhaustion – it’s about intentional rhythms of rest, reflection, and recalibration. It’s about building your own “aid stations” – moments with God that restore your soul, renew your strength, and remind you of the One who sustains your calling.
